Somers Town Community Association has been in existence since 1979 and started out in a tenants hall but has grown into a thriving community centre, quality marked and delivering activities and services meeting the needs of the whole Somers Town Community. There are approx 12.500 people living in an area which is amongst the most diverse and most deprived in the country.
Our strength is in our ability to draw on our varied community to identify needs which we then convert into responsive action. Our centre is managed by volunteer representatives from local tenants, residents and people working in the area. We have 20 full but mostly part time staff. We run a full time 24 place nursery, children and families drop ins, youth groups, full time community café, luncheon club for the over sixties and English Spoken as an Other Language classes with IT skills and conversation.
See our: Annual Report 13/14

We run activities such as healthy eating sessions, advice sessions, yoga, Non contact boxing for young people, music mixing, drama film making, archery, table tennis coaching, lunch and film club for the over sixties etc – this is a non exhaustive list! Check our programme or telephone 0207 388 6088 for up to the minute programme details. We offer training opportunities across the centre delivery and volunteering and student placements. We work inter – generationally and have seen three generations of Somers Town families through our doors which means we are very rooted in our community. Many of our youth workers for example started out as young people attending our youth club and who have gone on to train.
Last year we delivered 243 health related classes, 162 ESOL classes for both men and women with 48 individuals attending each week. We saw over 2,189 families and children access our drop –ins and welcomed 144 new families to the sessions. We saw over sixty families using our nursery and 780 10 – 19 year olds using our youth clubs.
We work closely in partnership with other organisations in the voluntary and statutory fields and with a number of universities particularly in relation to social research.
