Rafeeque Ahmed 01/01/28 – 05/08/12
It was with very great sadness that we heard of the death of our longest serving trustee and friend, Rafeeque Ahmed. Rafeeque had been a stalwart management committee member of many Camden voluntary groups during the last thirty years. For twenty seven years at STCA, Raf’s steadfast volunteering had an immense impact on our capacity to deliver services and our ability to move towards self-sustainability. He was tenacious, self effacing, learned and had published many articles and a book dedicated to the ethical path of Veganism. Though more recently frail, Raf continued to support, commit and contribute with great good cheer. He was renowned for his joke telling and would often turn up at the centre with a printed page full of quips. Equally, a great philosopher, he would run rings around the rest of us “thinkers”, exposing our lack of knowledge in a most gentle way. Somers Town owes a great debt of gratitude to him. We learnt much from Rafeeque Ahmed and will miss him.
